Each year, around 10,000 wild animals are hit by vehicles across the country, and many more suffer from habitat fragmentation, which disrupts their access to food sources, ability to find mates, and chances of survival. The recent war has worsened the situation—over 340,000 dunams of open spaces and nature reserves were burned. This area is 6.5 times the size of Tel Aviv, or 11 times the size of Ben Shemen Forest. The remaining areas are divided and isolated, increasing the likelihood of roadkills and biodiversity damage.
The Safe Wildlife Crossings organization is working tirelessly to reduce the number of roadkills and maintain connectivity between open spaces in order to protect our precious biodiversity.
With your donation, we can continue to promote innovative solutions and advocate for wildlife in Israel. Every contribution, big or small, significantly impacts the situation.
How can your
donation help?
Public Engagement:
We can continue raising awareness about safe driving among the general public, educating young people, and promoting changes in driving habits within nature reserves.
Building Tunnels and Bridges:
Donations will help us invest in broader fundraising efforts to build infrastructure that maintains connectivity between open spaces.
Roadkill Reporting Bot Project:
We can continue developing more advanced versions of our roadkill reporting center, based on an advanced AI system that analyzes and monitors roadkill incidents across the country.
Wildlife and Communities Project:
We can continue running the program we developed with leading experts from academia. This program provides local communities with the tools to develop tailored solutions to reduce roadkills in problematic areas around them.
