A march in memory of Ruthie the striped hyena

We gathered yesterday on August 13th, 2022 to honor for the last time Ruthie the well-known hyena who gave a tiny glimpse of the abundant nature around the Modi'in region.

What happened to her is just one example of the many tramplings that claim thousands of human and wild animal lives. The march was meant to symbolize a red flag for the mass extinction that is happening around us and can be stopped. This is not about daydreams. The authorities and the government have great power in managing the nature around us, all that remains is to pressure them to perform the necessary actions. Ruthie's death is the tip of the iceberg of what is happening to nature in Israel. Every person who cares about living in a flourishing and somewhat green environment with people who are physically and mentally healthy should know that these tramplings are at our expense. There are no people without nature, no economy without nature and no air to breathe without nature and nature is all we have. There is no other time than now to make the change.

Underpasses and overpasses for animals can save thousands of animal lives and millions of lives of people in the country!

Everything is already mapped out, all that remains is to execute the plans.

We want to pay special thanks to the dozens of people who came yesterday and filled the boulevard with good. We want to extend our appreciation to Knesset member Mossi Raz who attended march in unity with us and supports us as well as to Knesset member Alon Tal who asked to convey that, “The State of Israel is facing a crisis of biological diversity, actually a collapse of ecosystems due to various reasons. A third of the vertebrates in nature are in danger of local extinction. Animal trampling on the country's roads is one of the symptoms - and of course also a significant factor. The time has come to change all assumptions about road construction to ensure that nature is taken into consideration. This is the only way we can save nature for future generations.”
