Safety Guidelines for Reporting to the Hotline
Please note:
1. Report Only Wildlife.
The report should include, as much information as possible:
-
Location (GPS coordinates or road and segment number)
-
Species of the animal
-
Condition of the animal (injured or deceased)
2.For Safety Reasons, Reporting Must Be Done by Non-Drivers Only.
During reporting, maintain a safe distance from the roadkilled animal.
3.Do Not Approach Roadkilled Wildlife Under Any Circumstances.
If you cannot safely stop on the roadside, do not put yourself at risk. You may report later. If you have a dashcam, send us footage from it.
4.Stopping on Roads:
It is strictly prohibited to stop on roads or highways with speed limits of 80 km/h (50 mph) or higher unless you have prior authorization.
5.Stopping Safely:
Stopping for reporting should only be done in a safe location that does not endanger the reporter or other road users, considering road conditions, visibility, weather, etc. If you are the driver, report later when you are in a safe environment that allows stopping.
6.Safety Precautions When Stopping:
-
Place the warning triangle immediately after stopping.
-
Turn on hazard lights.
-
Wear a reflective vest, even during the day.
7.Taking Photos or Videos:
If you can take a photo or video, do so only from a safe place that poses no danger to human life. Follow all safety rules for being outside the vehicle in urban road settings. If stopping on the roadside is unsafe, report later. If you have a dashcam, send us footage from it.
Your Impact:
Each report contributes to a growing database built with your help and the support of others like you. The information collected is used to:
Implement wildlife crossings in necessary areas on existing and new roads.
Identify "red roads" where wildlife is at particular risk.
Evaluate the effectiveness of existing wildlife crossings.
Important Notes:
Reporting is done voluntarily.
The organization is not directly or indirectly liable for injuries, accidents, damages, or any similar outcomes resulting from the act of reporting.
Adhere strictly to the attached guidelines and act accordingly when reporting. Always use your judgment, and do not report if it poses any danger to yourself, others, or property.
